FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is your site from West Highland Way?

We’re right next to the West Highland Way (you actually walk past the front window of the Hostel Common Room!). Please see our ‘Where are we?‘ page for a map of where we are, but if you’re walking, you really can’t miss us!

We're arriving by car - what's the quickest route to By The Way?

We’re in Tyndrum village just off the A82. This is the only road that leads to the North and West Highlands, so it’s hard to miss Tyndrum if you’re driving this way. Please see our ‘Where are we?‘ page for a map of where we are, and advice on routes to get to our site.

Can we get the train to By The Way?

Absolutely! We are right next to Tyndrum Lower Station (about 50 metres away). This is the Glasgow to Oban line (departs from Glasgow Queen Street station) with a journey time of around 2 hours. Glasgow is a major city with train services across the UK, so you can get to By The Way by train from virtually anywhere in the UK. If you’re coming from London, we can recommend the Caledonian Sleeper. This leaves London Euston station in the evening and arrives in Glasgow first thing in the morning. You can connect in Glasgow with the Oban train and be at By The Way by mid-morning.

Alternatively, there is Tyndrum Upper station, which is on the other side of the A82 from By The Way and is a 900 metre walk (about 12 mins). This is on the Fort William/Mallaig to Glasgow line (also departs from Glasgow Queen Street) and has a journey time of around 2 hours 10 mins.
