Camping at By The Way If you are walking the West Highland Way and carrying your tent it is probably lightweight and small. In good Scottish summer weather (torrential rain), cooking, eating and sleeping in a tent can be a bit uncomfortable, not to mention damp (and remember not to touch the walls of the tent). To make life a bit easier we have an indoor campers' kitchen and dining area where you can cook a meal and then sit at a real table and eat it – very civilised. We also have toilets and hot showers, an undercover tent drying area and bike store, laundry facilities and a good drying room for outdoor clothes and boots. Camping costs £8 per person. It is advisable to book for camping.
We have a small area within the campsite that is ideally suited to backpacking and hiking tents. Facilities include showers, toilets and an indoor Camp Kitchen (sometimes even midge-free) where you can cook a meal and eat it at a proper table. The campsite also has laundry facilities and a campers' drying room.
The toilets/showers are heated. The camping kitchen has a kettle, two ring electric hob and microwave. There is a washing machine and dryer in the kitchen which both operate on tokens. The kitchen also has tables and chairs for eating indoors. ![]() Bell tents pitched at By The Way Please be sure to read our booking conditions. By The Way Hostel and Campsite, Tyndrum, FK20 8RY.
